Windows Vista 설치 후기 (하드웨어, 소프트웨어 호환 리스트)

5개월 전 새로 조립한 컴에 드디어 Windows Vista Ultimate 버젼를 설치 했다. 특별한 매니어가 아닌 탓에 비스타 출시 전엔 새로운 운영체제에 대한 별 정보도 생각도 없었지만 출시 후 시끄러운 말들이 너무 많아 설치 전에 고민을 하게 되었다. 특히 많은 비평들 중에 XP와 별 차이점 없는 XP의 시각적 업그레이드 버젼, 비스타의 하드웨어/소프트웨어 호환성 문제, 고성능 컴퓨터 사양 요구, 불안정한 운영체제라는 것들이 가장 흔한 지적인 것 같다. 하여튼 설치 후 첫 인상을 간단하게 주절거려 본다.

첫째, DVD 설치 파일의 용량이 예전 XP보다 훨씬 크지만 의외로 설치는 아주 금방 끝났다. 정확히 재보지는 않았지만 30분 정도 걸린것 같다.

둘째, Windows Vista 설치 후 바로 모든 하드웨어 드라이버가 자동으로 잡혀서 추가적으로 설치 할 필요가 전혀 없었다. 오히려 XP 설치 시엔 조립한 컴퓨터 하드웨어가 비교적 최근것이어서 하드웨어를 인식하지 못하여 LAN 드라이버, 사운드 드라이버, 프린터 드라이버등을 설치했어야 했는데 Vista에서는 설치 후 모든 하드웨어가 바로 사용가능 했다 (아래 하드웨어 사양 참조).

셋째, 가장 걱정했던 부분이 바로 소프트웨어 호환 문제였는데 내가 즐겨 쓰는 프로그램에서는 단 한가지의 문제점도 없었다. 그리고 만일 호환성 문제가 있다고 하더라도 대부분 소프트웨어 업체들의 발빠른 움직임에 힘입어 업그레이드 패치가 이미 존재하는 경우가 많이 있다. Vista의 첫인상 중 좋았던 점은 프로그램 설치 시 호환성 문제가 있다면 그에 해당하는 솔루션 제공을 위한 웹링크를 포함한 경고 메세지를 보여준다는 것이다. 한글 버젼에서도 의도된 기능이 효율적으로 제공되는지는 모르겠지만... -_-a 아래 내가 사용하는 프로그램들은 Vista에서 정상적으로 작동하며 호환성 문제가 없는 것들이다.

단 몇몇 프로그램 및 ActiveX 설치를 위해서 User Account Control를 Off 시키거나 또는 관리자권한으로 실행 시켜야 하는 경우가 있다. 이점이 불편하여 나는 Vista 아예 UAC를 처음부터 Off 시켜 놓아서 그런지 전혀 문제가 없었다. 그리고 우리나라 웹사이트에서 제일 문제가 되는 공인인증서를 통한 인터넷 결제, 인터넷 뱅킹, 기타 ActiveX 설치 및 사용도 전혀 문제 없는 것으로 보인다.

넷째, Vista는 확실히 예전 XP 보다 고성능 사양의 컴퓨터를 요구하는 것은 사실이다. 많은 사람들이 언급한 듯이 겉으로는 단지 XP의 시각적 업그레이드에 지나지 않는 것처럼 보이지만 홈유저 및 비즈니스 사용자들을 위한 편리성과 보안성을 위한 많은 기능을 기본적으로 탑재하였다는 점은 분명하다. 아직 사용한지 일주일 정도 밖에 안되었지만 File Browsing, Network and Sharing, Windows Media Center, Windows Meeting Space, Windows, Movie Maker, BitLocker and EFS (Encryption File Systems), IIS 7, SUA (Subsystem for Unix-based Application), Cryptography Suite (Suite B) 등등 인상적인 부분이 많이 있다. 물론 베타 테스트 버젼에서나 볼 수 있는 버그나 에러가 종종 눈에 띄긴 하지만 이점은 서비스팩이 조만간 출시되면서 해결되길 기대해 본다.
